Y La Bamba

With Y LA BAMBA, Luzelena Mendoza draws from both her strict Catholic upbringing as an only daughter of a Mexican immigrant and a debilitating illness that led her to fall away from her faith, to create what LA Weekly calls "Devendra Banhart-influenced art-folk with hazy femme vocals and traditional Mexican sounds." After 3 well-received albums, Y La Bamba disbanded in 2013. Mendoza worked on other projects including a band she fronted with Nick Delffs called Tiburones. In 2015, Mendoza announced a revival of the band Y La Bamba with an evolving lineup, and a new record funded through a kickstarter campaign. That record, Ojos Del Sol, will include visual art along with music, and is expected in 2016.
