Tyler Daniel Bean

When I think about Tyler Daniel Bean, I think about him standing next to the kettle using a thermometer to properly brew the perfect pot of coffee; about sitting around the table to Annie’s mac and cheese and him looking like it was everything he’s ever wanted; about him talking on the phone with a professor for forty-five minutes over Anne Sexton’s use of “pea-green,” because, as he says, “every detail matters”; about watching him sit still for an hour in Rothko Chapel, as if he were experiencing it with every part of himself. And when I think about his music, I think about how subtle Rothko seems at first, how easy it is to brush him off, but when you really look at his work, when you let him in, you realize how much he gets it.
