Still Corners

Still Corners was formed by Greg Hughes in 2008 and their first EP, Remember Pepper? was released in June that year. Greg was still looking for a full time singer for his musical scribblings. By chance, he met Tessa Murray on a train platform early in 2009 when their train failed to stop at London Bridge and went 20 minutes outside of London to a little place called Kidbrooke. They bonded over books and music on the way back into the city and agreed to meet again. Less than a year later the demos that Greg and Tessa were working on started coming together and it soon became obvious that Still Corners was to be. Not long after, the duo garnered wide critical success with a string of singles including the Don't Fall In Love/Wish 7-inch on cult label the Great Pop Supplement and the haunting Endless Summer, which was released on a Fierce Panda compilation, Gruff Trade in England. These singles sparked the interest of many labels but it was Sub Pop Records in Seattle who flew over to London and signed the band immediately. Releasing Creatures of an Hour in October 2011, this astounding debut includes the singles Cuckoo, Endless Summer and Into the Trees and captured the hearts of many fans across the UK, Europe and United States. The band quickly went to work on the next record and Strange Pleasures was released by Sub Pop less than two years later in May 2013. Standout tracks from the album include Fireflies (Best New Track, Pitchfork), Berlin Lovers and The Trip. Still Corners released their third record, Dead Blue, on Wrecking Light Records in September 2016, including lead singles Lost Boys and Down with Heaven and Hell. The album was written by the English seaside, owing its name specifically to the wild beauty Greg and Tessa found there. It explores inner darkness through tales of love, loss, death and hope. “This album is an expression of our fears and our desires in an effort to get a handle on our past experiences and the world around us”, Greg muses. “The more you know your own darkness, the more you can control those triggers to prevent all out wild fires in your own life. There's an old Native American tale where an elder tells a boy about the two wolves that live in his heart. One is love and one is fear. They are in a battle. The boy asks, well "which one wins?" The elder replies, "the one you feed most". A big part of winning that battle against fear is knowing what triggers it.” Still Corners’ live shows have a backdrop of eerie visuals that take concert-goers to another dimension. With big drums, epic guitar solos, dark synths and Tessa’s ethereal voice, the band brings a dark moody atmosphere to proceedings. They have just returned from a five week tour across North America and are looking forward to rescheduled shows in San Antonio and Austin. Still Corners music has been used in film, TV and commercials, including 2015’s film Bare, Gossip Girl, Microsoft, and the Alamo Drafthouse’s trailer for its Steven Spielberg month to name a few.
