Lili Anel
Lili Añel (pronounced Ahn-Yell) considers music a calling. This six-foot tall singer-songwriter was born and raised in New York City, where she discovered her passion for music. As a child Añel remembers singing along to her mother’s Cuban, jazz and pop standard albums. Her mother and grandfather were supportive of her desire to sing in the church choir, which is where it all began for her. A Philadelphia resident since 2004, Lily’s music defies categorization. She describes her craft as a hybrid of “jazz/folk/soul/pop.” Lili continues to win over audiences with her powerfully unique vocal stylings, guitar playing and songs that, while often recalling her many influences (Joni Mitchell, Steely Dan, Janis Ian, and Joan Armatrading), prove her own distinctive approach to performing. She has supported Cassandra Wilson, Madeleine Peyroux, B.B. King, The Holmes Brothers, Boz Scaggs, Raul Midon, Alejandro Escovedo, and Robert Cray, amongst others. Lily’s six albums have earned her accolades from All About Jazz, JazzTimes magazine and WRTI. She is also the recipient of three NY Music Awards.
