The Studio Wednesday House Band

Studio Wednesdays happen at Silk City in Philadelphia. It's the newest/freshest monthly event featuring artists and musicians in a strictly creative & improvisational atmosphere. All sounds that you hear from the stage are created in the moment. Special guest artists featured every month. With the house band consisting of Hiruy Tirfe, Kayla Childs, Jonathan Smith, and Lionel Forrester Jr, sets the tone with a set of all non-rehearsed, non-planned, all improvised songs which would then lead into a jam session where musicians can then join the band, sit in and add on to the tone that has been set. From top industry musicians to musicians in local Philadelphia universities, Studio Wednesdays have a place for all creatives to share their gifts to the scene. Tirfe is a musician/saxophonist born in Philadelphia and raised in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania. At only 27 years of age, Tirfe had amazing opportunities to perform with artist of all genres of music. Some artist include The Roots, Chill Moody, Solange Knowles, Eric Roberson, Patti LaBelle, Jay Bratten, Robin Eubanks, Ted Nash, Beano French, Bilal Oliver and many other artists. Tirfe is also a two time "Outstanding Soloist" winner at the Next Generation Jazz Festival (2016, 2017) Venues that Tirfe performed at include Radio City Music Hall, Made In America Festival, AfroPunk Festival, Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival, 2017 NFL Draft, Monterey Jazz Festival, John F. Kennedy Center, NPR Tiny Desk Series and many others. When Tirfe isn’t on the stage, he is in the studio working with many different artists and bands. Some artist that Tirfe has recorded with includes H.E.R., Brandy, Boots Greene, Wyclef Jean, Zhavia Ward and many others including his own project. In May 2017, Tirfe has graduated from the University Of The Arts with his Bachelors in Saxophone Performance with a minor in music education in May 2017 and also May 2018 receiving his Masters Degree in Music Education from the same university. Tirfe’s debut record “10,000 Hours” will release within the next year.
